The European Union faces a challenging political and economic
environment : it must repair the balance sheets of all its banks,
insure financial stability and sufficient financing of the economy.
How far did we get? What is to come?
Besides, the European Commission proposal on the Banking Union will have major impact on both national regulators and European banks and raises several question : Macro versus micro supervision? Stability versus investor protection? Governance ? Role of EBA and the ECB ? Appropriate level of supervision ? Impact on banks in terms of supervision ?
Sven GIEGOLD as Co-Rapporteur for the creation of the common banking supervisor, Rapporteur for ESMA and the revision of the European System of Financial Supervisorswill comment on the European Parliament’s priorities and the Banking Union implementation process. He will also present his report on the revision of the European System of Financial Supervision which will have been adopted by the ECON committee by then.
