Biography

Christian Castro is currently the Head of Public Affairs at CaixaBank where he coordinates and contributes to the development of policy proposals of relevance for the Group, especially on regulatory matters.

Prior to this position, Christian was Head of the Division on Global Prudential Policy and Impact Analysis at the Banco de España (BdE), where he was in charge of the policy analysis and monitoring of prudential regulation at the global level (FSB and BCBS). Previously to joining the BdE, he worked at the Bank of England as PhD Economist in the Prudential Policy Division. During all this time, he developed a strong expertise on banking regulation and has been member of more than 20 international working groups at the FSB, BCBS, ECB, ESRB and EBA, on macro and microprudential policy.

At present, he is a member of the Coordination Committee at the European Savings and Retail Banking Group (ESBG), Chair of the ESBG Task Force on Basel IV, and member of different working groups on regulatory issues at the ESBG and the Institute of International Finance (IIF).

Christian began his career at the Central Bank of Argentina as Senior Economist and then Advisor to the Chief Economist. He also worked as a consultant at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in Washington DC, where he was selected IDB Young Professional in 2008.

Christian holds a Ph.D. in Business Economics from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). He enjoys participating as speaker in seminars and conferences, and has taught a broad range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses on economics.
